Fumika and Kanaka are mail carriers- but not the typical kind. For one, Kanaka is a talking staff and for two, Fumika delivers shigofumi: letters from the dead addressed to the living. These letters are a final, true, communication derived from hate, hope, and love. The story unfolds following this pair and their uncommon job as well as Fumika's unique 'situation'.

Fumika is going through some bullying at school, but a kind girl named Suzune shows her kindness. At school, a rumor is spreading about the curse of KÅichi Kikukawa, and people are apparently receiving shigofumi from him, though Kaname and Natsuka suspect they are fake. Suzune turns out to be KÅichi's younger sister, and she attempts to enact revenge against the three guys who pushed her brother to suicide, but Fumika (Kirameki's daughter) interferes before she can. Later at school, Suzune continues her friendship with Fumika, and Natsuka's older sister Haruna sends Fumika a text message asking her to come live with them instead of at a hotel.
