A long-term psychiatric patient escapes from hospital and, that same night, a young woman disappears from a night club. The patient is later discovered up a tree, holding the body of the missing girl and covered in her blood, while his fingerprints are found on the murder weapon. His guilt seems less clear cut, however, when the body of an earlier victim, killed when he was still in a secure unit, is uncovered.
